Prepare for Birth
About
My name is Isobel Boyes.
I am an Associate of the Active Birth Centre which means that I have trained with the most experienced yoga for pregnancy and childbirth educators in the country. My tutors have typically 20 years yoga for pregnancy teaching experience, and the tutor who signed off my training is Janet Balaskas, the pioneer of Active Birth in this country, founder of the Active Birth Centre, and published author.
I have attended 36 hours of specialist workshops for yoga for pregnancy, active birth and teaching active birth to couples. In addition to this I have 48 hours of apprenticeship training where I observed, pracised and taught yoga for pregnancy under the supervision of an experienced tutor. This entire course has taken a total of two years to complete and included writing papers and doing a case study of one of the women in my class. The training is thorough, specific to yoga for pregnancy, and includes modifications to the standard yoga postures that take account of the changes in the pregnant woman’s body, and which have specific modifications to work around various pregnancy ailments which may occur from time to time.
All the movements are safe, simple and relaxing and are beneficial to almost all pregnant women. I do believe that yoga for pregnancy is an important time for women to allow them to tune into their bodies, calm their minds, and prepare for birth.
In addition to the regular yoga for pregnancy classes, I also run Active Birth Workshops. When I was pregnant my partner and I found it invaluable to attend such a course as it removed so much of the anxiety and fear surrounding our first birth experience. I am a practical person and active birth is simply birth in a practical and intelligent way ie using postures which utilise gravity and maximise your chances of having a normal and rewarding birth experience. I hope that my enthusiasm and knowledge can help you to have the birth you want as well.
I live in Halesowen with my partner, two children (age 5 and 8), and I am 41 years old. I have had two vaginal births, one in hospital and one at home. I have had one baby who was a nightmare to breastfeed and one who was a complete joy! I’ve also had postnatal depression after the birth of my second baby so I am fully able to understand a variety of viewpoints and problems which I hope gives me the necessary tools to help you (and your partner) to get a good birth experience, and to help you with your new baby as well.
I am passionate about breastfeeding and know that if only you can get the right advice early enough, you have a good chance of having a truly wonderful breastfeeding relationship with your baby. That is why I wrote my own e-Book on breastfeeding.
I look forward to providing a range of services and products which will help the women of this area to connect with their innate ability to give birth simply and from a position of knowledge.
